John Wendle (b. 1980, Youngstown, Ohio) is an independent photographer, writer and videographer based in Kiev, Ukraine.
Reporting on both human and environmental conflict, John creates immersive, in-depth multimedia packages as well as crafting stand alone photo essays, videos and features.
John has more than a decade of experience living and reporting in the former Soviet Union and Afghanistan and has worked in nearly 20 countries. He speaks fluent Russian.
His work has appeared in National Geographic, Scientific American, The Washington Post, TIME, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, The New York Times, Al Jazeera America, Al Jazeera English, ABC, CNN, GQ, Monocle, Channel 4, Le Monde, The Times of London, The Independent, The Telegraph, Le Figaro, The Smithsonian, Outside, The Economist, Habitat for Humanity, BBC, Marie Claire, the UN, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and others.
John has a master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism with a focus on reporting conflict and photojournalism. He has combat medical training from RISC and hostile environment training from TYR-Solutions through a Rory Peck Trust bursary.
