The Sony Alpha a7S II Mirrorless Digital Camera allows you to shoot 4K internally with built-in stabilization and 169 autofocus points, an upgrade from the original a7S, which required the use of an external recorder for 4K. The relatively low megapixel count sensor of the a7SII is designed for video recording and features a full sensor readout without any of the line skipping found in very large megapixel count cameras. You will see a sharp footage devoid of major aliasing and moiré when recording internally in 4K. The 4K recording capabilities is paired with a redeveloped recording setup, including the ability to use S-Log3 Gamma and S-Gamut3 in addition to S-Log2 for increased dynamic range values by up to 1300% to better match high-end post-production workflows.
This camera also features multiple timecode recording options to match different workflows. Focus peaking to aid in manual focusing, zebra markers to help judge overexposure, and an audio level overlay for mixing audio are among the qualities that make working with the a7SII desirable, along with its svelte size. With an ISO expandable from 50 to 409600, this camera is well suited to shooting in low light conditions thanks to a new RGB color filter array, as well as a gapless on-chip lens design, which allows for low noise, high-sensitivity recording.
The Atomos Ninja Flame 7" 4K HDMI Recording Monitor has the brightness and dynamic range to show all the detail of HDR Log to avoid that monitor "washed out" look that makes judging exposure difficult for filmmakers. In addition to HDR monitoring, the Ninja Flame offers a High Bright Mode for traditional monitoring. This mode takes advantage of the full 1500 cd/m² brightness to allow for more confident monitoring in bright outdoor environments, even without a sun hood. You also have the option to calibrate to taste and overcome LCD color shifting. Monitor up to 8 channels of HDMI audio with dedicated audio meters, including gain adjustment. Convert interlace video from your camera to progressive on the fly with built-in 3:2 and 2:2 pulldown and gain advanced functionality like Pre-roll (continuous cache recording so you never miss the action) and time-lapse to maximize your creativity. Built to withstand the rigors of production, the Ninja Flame sports built-in protective armor that features silicone-covered corners.
