Hi, my name is Julian Lim. I'm a journalist and co-owner of 511C Productions, a documentary filmmaking company based in New York City. I'm currently working as the cinematographer for And So I Stayed, a documentary about a domestic violence survivor who shot and killed her boyfriend in self-defense.
After receiving my master's in journalism from Columbia University ('17), I was selected as a McClatchy Video Fellow where I was embedded with the Belleville News-Democrat in the St. Louis Metro East area for six months. I shot and edited over 40 videos, including the project "Then I Knew" — a collection of stories from black residents of different backgrounds recalling the first moment they realize that the color of their skin would shape their lives.
I've also worked as a video fellow for Newsweek, a page designer for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Gannett, and Gatehouse Media. Prior to Columbia, I received my bachelor's in journalism and Asian American studies at San Francisco State University ('15).
