The crucial requirement to absolute precision lighting and exposure is the understanding of the camera sensor’ dynamic range and the calibration of the digital light meter to correspond with it. Thankfully, Sekonic has automated the calibration and pairing process to under a couple of minutes, using their DTS 3.0 syncing software (supplied and PC or Mac). The DTS software enables the measurement of the dynamic range of the camera sensor (compatible with any camera) when used with our X-Rite ColorChecker Passport (supplied) the calibrated data can be imported into the L-758 light meter. This delivers a precision light metering device, never really seen before in the digital era.

The calibration process is all automated, first the captured images of the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport are processed as TIFF or JPEG images, then imported into the Sekonic DTS software for processing and mapping to the light meter, this is essentially a calibration of real-world industry-standard values but in your physical environment. Once processed the data can be transferred via USB to the L-758Cine light meter, up to three camera profiles can be stored in the light meter, but hundreds can be stored on a computer in the DTS software.

Once configured, the Sekonic L-758Cine DigitalMaster light meter is the best in the business and enables the measuring of incident light, reflected light and spot meter readings that are perfectly tuned to the dynamic range of the users camera(s).
