Showcase the outstanding beauty of nature with a Tokina AT-X lens for your Nikon. Tokina licensed the design of this unit in the 1990s from the original designer, the French cinematographer Angenieux. Angenieux is a world-leader in high-end cinema lenses used by seasoned Hollywood professionals, and that same attention to detail is present in this high-quality lens. Lightweight and compact, this photography essential pairs well with Nikon cameras to give you photos with excellent optical quality. The 0.7m close focus delivers sharp and clear detailed images. Fixed with a dull-chromed mounting made out of brass and colorful engraved markings, it adds a dash of glamour to any camera. With diaphragm blades and autofocus capabilities, there is no distortion in close-up photos. The diaphragm blades work to prevent the intrusion of unwanted light and ensure unparalleled clarity. The optics are 16 elements in 12 groups, including a High Refractive/Low Dispersion element. There are eight aperture blades. The unit is sturdier than similar zoom lenses, and it is compact, so you will find it easy to mount to your camera. In the box, you'll find a soft case and bayonet lens hood. An optional 77mm center pinch grip cap and filter are recommended options for protection.Like most Tokina lenses, the AT-X is built well and has the feel of a professional unit. This is due to its duraluminum-alloy frame. The rubberized, broad zoom and manual focus rings work smoothly. An unusual feature is that the physical length of the lens does not change as it zooms in and out. However, think of this lens as either a manual or an autofocus. Decide if you wish to adjust the focus manually or not, as it will lock-in once you activate autofocus. It has a clutch mechanism that handles the switch between manual and autofocus by pulling or pushing the focus ring. The autofocus speed is fast, and the noise as the lens adjusts is low. There is also a switch that you must flip when changing between the manual and autofocus. For the AF setting, you first push the focus ring towards the end of the unit. Next, you flip the switch to autofocus. This makes moving back and forth between autofocus and manual focus a little easier and more fluid. You'll get the best-quality photos if you know your settings and choose the proper aperture for the lighting conditions and subject. The best setting for optimal sharpness in your photo is one or two stops below the 70mm at f/2.8 setting. This lens will give the strongest performance when used in the 28mm - 50mm focal length range. The advantage of the Tokina is its quality build. If you plan on using it in the f/2.6 to f/4 range, you will get excellent results.
