OWNER NOTES

This is the 2017 update to the well known 2006 Canon 85mm L II Series lens. The 2017 L Series III update fixes many of the issues of the older generation lens.. The new generation adds image stabilization (IS) which greatly improves sharpness for stills (up to about 2 stops) and controls vibration for hand-held video too. Auto focus drive is greatly improved, whereas the old lens "searched" for long periods the new lens locks in very quickly. Weighs in at about a pound less too. This is the hottest lens in Canon's lineup, shooting possible without cranking up the ISO and creating tons of noise. Great for portraits or punching-in under low-light video conditions. A must have for portrait and doc shooters. Killer bokeh.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L (with Image Stabilization)

OWNER NOTES

The Canon EF 24-70mm f/4L (with Image Stabilization) is very similar to the f/2.8L but is significantly lighter and incorporates Canon's active image stabilization system into the lens. This really helps reduce shake in video footage by about 50% and aides in making handheld still shots in low light much sharper then without. I'm switching out all my non-IS lenses for IS, it will really make a difference in your work.

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens

Includes: Lens shade, Front cap, Rear cap

More

INCLUDES

OWNER NOTES

Not sure about KitSplit's wonky, default description, but this IS a great lens for macro, tabletop or portrait work. Incorporates Canon's image stabilization system for stills and video. This helps reduce shake in video footage by about 50% and aides in making handheld still shots in low light much sharper. I'm currently switching out all my non-IS lenses for IS, it has really made a big difference in my work. Sharper stills and more fluid video.

This lens can go to "life-size" (1:1) macro magnification for some very close shots. Focus limiter lets you set the range to prevent focus searching. Really just a great workhorse portrait and close-up lens. Great for semi-long cinema shots too. 100mm is just a really versatile focal length.

OWNER NOTES

This is one of my favorite lenses, it's great for: (1) Creating an epic sense of scale in landscapes.. (2) Getting into tight spaces that are too small even for 24mm.. (3) Using the foreshortening properties to create an "odd" or "surreal" mood. This is the Canon "chipped" version of this lens, which unlike the cheaper "un-chipped" version the aperture is controllable by the camera (instead of a mechanical ring), focus aid data is transferred to the camera body and lens metadata as well. For such a wide lens, the distortion is not bad and stays sharp edge to edge. There are also distortion correction profiles for this lens in many popular apps (Premiere, Lightroom, etc.).

OWNER NOTES

The image quality from the C200 is really impressive (even in 8-bit). I've also found it less noisy then the C300. The C200 is lighter and smaller then the C300 and I really prefer the updated ergonomics. The dual pixel auto focus is insanely good, especially when paired with modern Canon L series 2 lenses.

This camera currently supports two primary codecs. Here's what they're best for:

4K 8-bit (4.2.0):
(1) Long interviews
(2) Doc shooting, events, weddings or any instance you need to capture a ton of footage and move it around quickly
(3) Anything for direct to internet distribution

4K Cinema RAW Lite 12-bit (4.4.4)
(1) Commercials, films, etc. where maximum quality is important and a DIT workflow can be implemented (these files are gigantic).
(2) Reel shots or anything that you want to color grade beyond the norm.

There is currently no intermediate codec available for internal recording (For example: ProRes 4.2.2) but it is accessible via HDMI using an external recorder (Atomos or Odyssey).
