Fast Normal-Range Zoom. With a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24-80mm, this lens covers the wide to portrait length range. The f/2.8 aperture’s low-light capability makes the 12-40mm ideal for event and wedding photography. This also enables great subject-background separation for portraiture.

High-Speed Autofocus. The linear AF motor gives fast and accurate autofocus performance. It also has the MSC designation, meaning its smooth and silent autofocus works great for shooting video.

High-Quality Build. The dust-, freeze-, and drip-proof build allows use in even the least-desirable conditions. Its clutch-engaged manual focus ring gives quick access to manual adjustments.

High-Quality Optics. The 12-40mm features one aspherical extra-low dispersion (ED) element, two aspherical elements, one Dual Super Aspherical (DSA) element, two extra-low dispersion elements, one HD element, and two high-refractive index (HR) elements. This advanced optical formula minimizes aberrations, distortion, and color fringing throughout the zoom range while retaining overall image sharpness, clarity, and fidelity.
