The LEE Filters - Filter Holder System Foundation Kit is the filter holder package, and clips easily onto the adaptor ring. It is supplied with two filter guides already fitted, a spare set of guides and longer screws allow for a third slot to be added if required. Works on any lens with an outside diameter of 100mm or less (16-35mm recommended).
What's Included:
- Foundation Kit
- 77mm Wide-Angle Filter Thread (for mounting on lens)
- 82mm Wide-Angle Filter Thread (for mounting on lens)
- LEE Soft Graduated Neutral Density Filter (4x6)
- Big Stopper 10 Stop Long Exposure Neutral Density Filter
- Little Stopper 6 Stop Long Exposure Neutral Density Filter
- LEE Filters 105mm Landscape Circular Polarizer Filter
For example, the 77mm thread adapter lets you shoot with 16-35mm wide angle Nikon lens. The 82mm allows to shoot with Canon 16-35mm, 24-70mm, etc.
Circular Polarizer is made specifically for this platform whether you're shooting nature, ocean, architecture, or anything that requires reduction of glare, reflections, haze and Blue Cast.
This entire package gives you the ability to go down 17 whole stops (should you choose to). Big Stopper (10) + Little Stopper (6) + CPL (1 stop). This should cover about 99% of real world shooting scenarios. Let me know if you want to go nuts and I'll throw in a Super Stopper (15 more stops) which, if you're keeping track, will give you 32 whole stops.
Some quick math for you: 32 stops = 2^32 = 4,294,967,296
With 32 stop filter stack, exposure at f/16 and ISO100 it would be 4,294,967,296/100 = 42949672.96 seconds = 11930.47 hours = 497 days. This assumes continuous daylight. Accounting for night-time and to approximate usable daylight to darkness (~1:3 ratio) increase your days by 66%, which means you would have to have the shutter open on bulb mode for 825.02 days or roughly 2.26 years. And this is why I'm not listing the LEE Filters Super Stopper because you probably have better things to do.
The adapter ring is crucial to the LEE Filters system. It screws onto the camera’s lens and sits in front of the lens’s front thread.
The wide angle adapter ring is suitable for use with wide angle lenses. It differs from the standard adapter ring by sitting closer to the front element of the camera’s lens, as the threads are recessed into the adapter ring so that the adapter ring slightly overlaps the lens. As a result, the likelihood of vignetting is dramatically reduced.
The wide angle adapter ring could really be considered a universal adapter ring as it can be used on any lens, even if it is not a wide angle lens.
